July 2nd Preview

Greetings from the wilds of Wyoming (where I had a wonderful walk/run this morning at a breathtaking 7000 feet of elevation). I’ll be at a family reunion in Colorado this weekend. Lindsey, Jean and Tatiana will take good care of you at our scheduled 11-mile run.

The route (with an eight o’clock start from the Eugene Running Company): Oakway and Coburg Roads to Ferry Street Bridge and don’t cross. Turn left onto bike path, to Autzen footbridge and across. Turn left, past Ferry and Valley River, to Owosso footbridge and across. Then back to Ferry and store. GPS distance is 10.95 miles.

Many of you will run Butte to Butte on Tuesday. If you’re running the Coburg Half, I still recommend going the 11 on Sunday. But if not going to Coburg (especially if you raced last weekend at Love Liberates), a shorter run might be better.

Bring a drink for delivery at Valley River (about 4.5 miles). Weather forecast: sunny with starting temperature in 50s, rising toward afternoon high in 80s.

June 24th & 25th Results

On Saturday morning we helped inaugurate half-marathon racing on the Springfield paths. It was hot, on the way to much hotter. Yet all seven of our runners finished, two winning their age group, two more placing second, one third and none lower than fourth.

Thanks to Piper Ruiz and her Pink Buffalo Racing for arranging this new local event.

Sunday's group was understandably small, this run coming so soon after the race on Saturday. Thanks to Lindsey for opening the store, and congratulations for as women's winner of a Friday 30K trail race in Bend.

June 24th & 25th Previews

We’ll have a split squad again this weekend, some running our 10 miles on Sunday and others the new Love Liberates Half-Marathon on Saturday. Either way, it will be warm. The year's first days with 90-plus temperatures are due this weekend, though those are afternoon highs and not running-time readings.

Our Sunday route (from the Eugene Running Company with an eight o’clock start): Oakway and Coburg Roads to Ferry Street Bridge and don’t cross. Turn right onto bike path, to Valley River footbridge and across. Turn left, to Autzen footbridge. Turn AROUND at brick crosswalk, and come back the same way: Valley River, Ferry and store. GPS distance is 10.15 miles. Shorter options are available for those who ran the Saturday race.

Bring a drink for delivery at Skinner Butte playground, 3.5 and 6.5 miles. Weather forecast: sunny with starting temperature about 60, rising toward afternoon high around 90.

I’ll also be at Loving Liberates on Saturday. The half-marathon starts at 8:00, at the Mill Race trailhead. My cheering spots will be the Jasper (two miles) and Clearwater (nine miles) trailheads.

Seems I created some confusion with the previous post about midweek runs. Those didn't start today and won't the next two Wednesdays. The beginning date is July 12th.

June 17th & 18th Results (various)

This is one of those weekends, most common in summer, when we scatter in several different directions. Lydia, Michele and Neal ran in the Wild Rogue Relay in southern Oregon, finishing their team’s 218 miles in Brookings on Saturday. Several of us spent Father’s Day morning at the Prost8K in Springfield. Meanwhile, we took our “Sunday” run on Saturday.

Another unusual weekend will follow. Some will run the new Loving Liberates Half-Marathon next Saturday, with our 10-mile run coming on Sunday.

SATURDAY’S 9.1 MILES

(with per-mile pace for GPS average of 9.15; target was to run at a pace you could hold for a half-marathon; these are my “raw” times that don’t account for stoplights and long drink stops; you probably ran faster than listed here)

Jean – ran untimed
Tatiana – ran untimed
Kristin – 1:46:38 (11:30 pace) welcome to the team!
Stephanie – 1:46:38 (11:30s)
Leah – 1:25:30 (9:20s)
Sean – 1:22:39 (9:02s)
Trina – 1:56:13 (12:42s)
Nobuko – 1:56:13 (12:42s)
Russell – 1:18:15 (8:33s)
Rhonda – 1:43:28 (11:18s)

Guests

Amy – 1:43:28 (11:18s)
Gabe – 6.3 miles in 1:24:12 (13:23s)

OTHER WEEKEND RUNS

Wild Rogue Relay on Friday and Saturday

Neal, Michele and Lydia all ran about 18 miles in three segments, spread across 35 hours.

Prost8K on Sunday

(official results for current and recent teammates are slow to post)

Jean -- 8K run in 51:24 (10:20s) 1st in age group
Tatiana -- 8K run in 52:27 (10:33s) 2nd in age group
Amy -- 8K run in 44:45 (9:00s) 2nd in age group
Gabe – 5K walk in 46:55 (15:06s) 1st in age group
Chris -- 8K run in 55:08 (11:05s) 2nd in age group
Rhonda -- 8K run in 50:34 (10:10s) 3rd or 4th in age group?
Joe – 5K walk in 41:48 (13:27s) 2nd in age group

June 17th Preview

Another oddity is coming this weekend. We’ll move our nine-mile run to SATURDAY. That’s to make room for Sunday’s Prost8K in Springfield – an event that holds special significance for Neal and me, as well as for Chris, Manny and Johan from past teams.

Our Saturday route (with an eight o’clock start from the Eugene Running Company): Oakway and Coburg Roads to Ferry Street Bridge and don’t cross. Turn left onto bike path, to Autzen footbridge and across. Turn right, to Valley River footbridge. Turn AROUND there and come back the same way: Autzen, Ferry and store. GPS distance is 9.15 miles.

Bring a drink for delivery near Valley River. Weather forecast: starting temperature in 50s with little chance of rain.

A few sentences about this current “Coburg Half” team: In winter/spring, we have a definite focus as nearly everyone trains for the Eugene Marathon or Half. In summer, we’re all over the map: Newport Marathon or Half, Helvetia Half, Rogue Relay (this weekend for Neal, Michele and Lydia), Prost8K, Loving Liberates Half, Butte to Butte 10K or 5K, Coburg, Hood to Coast Relay, McKenzie 50K, or just enjoying the training with no racing ambitions.

Our scheduled distances don’t suit everyone every week. Still, come when you can this summer and adapt the length as you need. The focus should return to single events for most of you come fall, when we'll aim for the Florence and EWEB Halves.
