December 31st Results (5.2 miles)

This felt less like the last day of 2017 than the first day of school. I was excited to meet so many of you, and for you to greet each other. Special welcome to first-time runners here: Dean, Charlotte, Julie and Taylor – plus Gabe and Amy who have come before as guests and are now here to stay.

Thanks to Lindsey for opening the store today. This after she ran 22 miles on Friday as training for a marathon in early February.

Training for Next Half-Marathon

Training for a long race goes better if you run with a group that shares your goal and a coach who has helped hundreds runners reach it previously. You set the goal, and I provide the group support and coaching advice for carrying out a proven training plan.

The next round of training points toward a 13.1-mile run to celebrate the 13th birthday of this team (February 25th). This can also serve as early training for the Eugene Marathon or Half (April 29th). Our final target race in this winter/spring series is the Love Liberates Half in Springfield (June 23rd).

You can, of course, train for other races. But you must make the necessary adjustments in distances, and we can’t promise full support for those runs.

The Running Company has sponsored our training team since its launch in 2005. More than 500 runners have joined us, and their finish rate in halves and marathons is greater than 99 percent.

Most Sunday runs start at 8:00, with previews of the route emailed to registered runners each week. Weekly results are posted on this blog.

The training fee is $50 for the first two months, $75 for January through April, and $100 for January-June. Fees are payable at the store before your training begins. Special deal: Returning runners can bring a new one, and that round of training is free for the recruit.

We welcome runners of all abilities and experience levels. However, we strongly recommend that you have run at least four miles before this training begins. To reserve a spot on Joe’s Team, contact me at: joesrunteam@gmail.com.

The winter schedule:

December 31st – 5 miles
January 7th – 6 miles
January 14th – 7 miles
January 21st – 8 miles
January 28th – 9 miles
February 4th – 10 miles
February 11th – 11 miles
February 18th – 6 miles
February 25th – 13th Birthday Half-Marathon

Our target half-marathons for summer-fall 2018 will be Coburg in July (when training will overlap with Love Liberates, for a single fee if you’ll run both), Florence in September and EWEB in November.

EWEB Half-Marathon Results

Are you EWEB runners warm yet? Run to Stay Warm lived up to its name today – which isn’t to say these were tough running conditions.

Several from our team ran their best times in years, or ever. One won an age group prize, another took second, and two placed third.

Thanks to Neal, Jan, Renee, Amy and Gabe for playing supporting roles. And to William and Piper from Eclectic Edge for singling out our team for special attention.

November 12th Results (6+ miles)

Better to be confused about the course today than next Sunday. There are four different ways to run the final mile to I-5. I think we tried them all this morning. But that won’t happen in the EWEB half-marathon, where your route surely will be the proper one – shown in the map sent today by email.

Thanks to Lindsey for opening the store today – as she has done most Sundays this year. Our runs from there have ended until after Christmas.

TODAY’S 6+ MILES

Yukari – 1:04:47 (10:32s)
