Training for EWEB Half

We’re entering the fourth and last lap of this year-long set of adventures. Winter (with Florence Half as our target), spring (Eugene, with partial teams running Newport and Coburg) and summer (Cottage Grove) are complete. EWEB’s Run to Stay Warm on November 24th marks our finish line for 2019.

Our runners can, of course, train for other races in this time frame, such as halves listed below. (Other distances lie outside the reach of this basically half-marathon program.) But you must make the necessary adjustments in training distances, and we can’t promise full support for all of those runs.

The Eugene Running Company has sponsored and hosted our training team since its launch in 2005. Most runs start at the store, at 8:00 on Sunday mornings.

Previews of the route emailed to registered runners each week. Weekly results are posted on our blog, http://joesteamrunners.blogspot.com.

If EWEB training is your first with us this since winter and/or spring, the cost is $50. Continuing runners from summer either have already paid or are eligible for discounts. There is no extra charge for runs labeled as “bonus training.”

SEPTEMBER TO NOVEMBER TRAINING

9/22 -- bonus run of 4 miles (Pacific Northwest Half on 21st)
9/29 -- 5 miles to start EWEB Half training

10/6 -- 6 miles (Portland Half on 6th)
10/13 -- 7 miles
10/20 -- 8 miles
10/27 -- 9 miles

11/3 -- 10 miles (Silver Falls Half on 3rd)
11/10 -- 11 miles
11/17 -- 6 miles
11/24 -- EWEB Half

BONUS RUNS

(11/30 -- Friendsgiving Half)
12/1 -- 11 miles
12/8 -- 6 miles
(12/14 -- Holiday Half)

This ends training until 2020, when we again will target a half-marathon in each of the four seasons.  Plans for next year are still taking shape, depending on which races are scheduled when.

Cottage Grove Half-Marathon Results

This isn’t bragging; it’s fact. We dominated the Cottage Grove Half. Our team accounted for 11 percent of the total field. We had four first-place finishers in age groups, plus five runners-up. Most importantly, 100 percent of our 20 runners finished, and PRs were plentiful.

We’ll have no team run on Sunday. Training for the EWEB Half will begin the following weekend, and I’ll preview that program soon.
