This was a first. We’ve
canceled two runs over the years (once for snow, the other for smoke), but
not until today had we delayed one. A troubling forecast led to the afternoon
start (though some from the team chose to check actual conditions and ran at
the usual time). Today we could add to the usual rhyme, making it "Sunday Runday
Oneday."
It was also a rare day
when the suggested distance for the Florence Half exceeded that for the Eugene
Marathon. A reminder that the alternating short runs are not throwaways. They
serve one of two purposed: either as recovery from the past week’s long one (at
similar pace but half the distance) or as speed training (at faster pace than a
week before).
Thanks to Lindsey and
Austin for greeting us at the store. It’s our first time back with her this
year.
